Visiting Teaching Video
Regardless of personal circumstances, we all need to know that we are loved and that someone cares. Visiting teaching is not just a lesson or a phone call. It is concerned, deep interest in the lives of others. It is about giving what the other person needs, not necessarily what we want to give. More than anything else, visiting teaching is a way for us to help each other feel the Savior's love in our lives. October 2008 Ensign - Name Withheld

October Canning Schedule
FAMILY CANNING (Wet-Pack ) Idaho Falls ID Cannery, 770 W. Anderson, Idaho Falls, ID 83402
Date: October 3, 2008 (Friday) Product: Pears (27 oz Cans) Price: $12.24/Case (12 Cans/Case)
2 Shifts: 8:00 am – 12:00 Noon
12:00 Noon – 4 pm
Date: October 30, 2008 (Thursday) Product: Applesauce (14 ½ oz cans) Price: $16.08/Case (24 Cans/Case)
1 Shift: 12:00 Noon to 4:00 pm
As most everyone is aware, the Church has suspended the canning of all meat products. We will be conducting a test run on October 10th, with a new set of procedures that must be followed. It is critical that anyone wishing to participate in the canning of meat products review thoroughly the attached documents. (Documents available from R.S. Presidency Sunday.) A signed copy of the “Note of Ownership (Bill of Sale)” must be received by October 3, 2008, in order to participate in this canning session. (This can either be a faxed copy of the document [Fax: 529-9956], or a signed original document.) Any questions can be directed to the cannery. Calling in to sign up will not be complete nor secure you a place in this family canning activity until we have the signed “Note of Ownership (Bill of Sale)” in our possession. If someone fails to show up on the canning date, the product cannot be sold to anyone else, nor given away. The only alternative the cannery will have will be to throw the product away.
This test run will assist the Church in evaluating the feasibility of offering meat products for family canning in the future. Your cooperation, patience and understanding is appreciated.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Due to a remodeling of the electrical wiring in the cannery during November and December, this family canning will be the last we will do this year. The next opportunity will be during the March time frame of 2009. Also depending upon the challenges we experience with the meat product will determine if it will be offered in the future.

For $3.60 you can sponsor one kit and help someone in need. Please sponsor as many kits as you would like to. Turn your money into the Bishopric in a donation envelope and write in "Ward Hygiene Kits" on the donation slip. Our goal as a ward is to sponsor 100 kits. Thanks for your generosity.

Flour & Sugar & Oats, Oh, My!
Cans & Lids & Fun, Oh, My!
-Just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz - only the sisters of the Victor 3rd Ward weren't surrounded by lions and tigers and bears, just cans & lids, & flour & sugar &&&&&&&. And our adventure didn't start in Kansas. It started at the LDS Cannery in Idaho Falls where Amber, Jill , and Amber's kids picked up 500 cans, lids, and oxygen absorption packets.
From there, our yellow brick road led us to Chris Johnson's garage in Brookside where we set up tables and dry pack canners and went to work. From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a break at noon for a delicious lunch, we canned and laughed and canned some more. Here's what our day looked like:
Bishop Kunz has given the ok to purchase a dry pack canner for our ward. If you would like to contribute toward the purchase price, you can do so by marking "other" on your donataion slip and writing in "ward dry pack canner."

Dry Pack Dinner
A big thanks to our super enrichment committee for the May "Dry Pack Dinner" Enrichment.
Jani Rasmussen & Ronda Moss gave lots of good information about storage and reminded us that our prophet today, as well as past prophets, have counciled us to be prepared. Susan was very entertaining as she demonstrated and let us sample wheat fruit salad, blender wheat pancakes, wheat thins, and wheat chili.
Nikkie showed us how to make wheat & white tortillas which we sampled with dry pack refried beans.

Melanie explained how to make "bean" fudge. We all had a taste and it was very delicious!!
Listening to Susan - very funny!!!
We all had a great time. Thanks so much to all who helped and all who attended.
